Emergency Response

Earthquakes to cyclones, we are experienced in all aspects of disaster response.

Emergency Response

Dan has been involved in most of the emergency responses that New Zealand has seen over the last 7 years. Working as both an employee for the country’s biggest construction industry companies, and as an independent consultant, Dan has demonstrated his ability to coordinate people, resources and industry connections with impressive speed and effectiveness.

While a core function of what BCL does, it is also a true passion. With a background in the Fire Service, Dan thrives in high pressure environments and adds true value to situations where immediate action and clear thinking is required.

BCL are able to offer expertise, advice, project management, emergency response support and coordination for any emergency response.

Below is a few of the latest responses Dan has been involved in:

Christchurch 2011 Earthquake support:

Supporting the rebuild of Christchurch involved working for three of Christchurch’s most prominent Civil Construction companies – Isaac Construction, Schick Construction & Cartage, and Sicon Ltd. Key projects related to the rebuild of Christchurch that I provided services too included the Acute Services Building for the Canterbury District Health Board, the Christchurch City Council cycle ways projects, and the Christchurch Airport Terminal upgrade.

The range of work completed since the quake in February 2011 included the oversight, leadership and project management of:

  • Repair and replacement of residential driveways and carparks,
  • Demolition of commercial and residential properties,
  • Repairs to sewer and storm water systems,
  • Road and pavement repairs
Christchurch – Port Hills Fire:

Working with council and local contractors, Dan was involved with the coordination centre in a technical role. The primary focus was to determine what earthworks resources existed in the field, what further resources were required and the coordination of obtaining these.

Kaikoura quakes:

Working with council and their maintenance contractor Sicon Ltd as part of the initial response team, our mission was to ensure local residents had property access and to reopen key access routes. With this mission complete in approximately 4 weeks, our priority then changed and to the rebuilding the regions infrastructure. This included the full spectrum of civil work and the coordination of over 150 staff (including sub-contractors).

Flooding & cyclones:

BCL is currently working in the Nelson/Tasman district following the Cyclon Gita Flooding and Gisborne district following the flooding in this region also.
